Nyo Skolan

Nyo Skolan (Sweden)
The Coordinator

We collaborate with the University West in Trollhättan and host VFU students, who are training to become teachers. Several of our teachers completed mentor training during the 2023-2024 period. From the fall of 2024 until 2025, those teachers who have not yet taken the “Global Classroom” course will do so. This course focuses on how the school can integrate students’ native languages as a tool in their daily school life. Trollhättan is an attractive industrial city that draws labor from various countries, such as Pakistan, India, and England. This means that we have many students from different countries attending our school, as well as immigrants/newcomers.

Trollhättan is a segregated town and the municipality works hard to integrate adults and students into the society through education and other activities.
The city is also known for its locks, completed in 1800. Every summer, the “Fallens Dagar” festival is held, during which the
locks are opened and water masses are released, creating a popular attraction. Many tourists from other European
countries drive through Sweden and stop in Trollhättan to witness this spectacle.

Our organization engages with a diverse range of learner profiles and age groups. We serve preschool, primary, and middle school students aged 1-16. Additionally, we provide tailored support for newly arrived and multilingual students across all age groups.
The majority of our immigrant students are students from Albania,Kosovo, Pakistan, India,Syria,Palestine, Iraq and Romani.
Students at our school can attend mother tongue classes after school hours for those parents who apply. The Mother Tongue Unit in Trollhättan comes to our school on designated days to provide mother tongue classes for those who have applied.

This is the concept of New School, which all teachers strive to uphold. “A good gut feeling.”
We believe that students learn better in a school where the social climate is characterized by respect, safety, and a sense of community. This climate is upheld by dedicated and creative educators. We believe that self-esteem and self-confidence are the keys to development, and that affirmation and challenges are the best tools.
We also believe that students need boundaries and rules to adhere to, and that good academic results require structure and order.
When it feels good in the gut, school becomes fun and learning is an exciting adventure.
