SMART UDL – Students Mastering English with Advanced Resources and Technology via UDL–
Project Overview
SMART-UDL is an Erasmus+ project designed to support teachers in creating inclusive, flexible and digitally enriched learning environments through the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
SMART-UDL with project number KA220-SCH-DB28F194 is granted by Swedish National Agency, Swedish Council for Higher
Education/Universitets- och högskolerådet.
The project responds to the increasing diversity of learners in today’s classrooms and the need for teaching approaches that address different learning styles, abilities, motivations and backgrounds. By combining UDL principles with Web 2.0 and digital tools, SMART-UDL aims to transform lesson planning into a more accessible, engaging and student-centred process.
The SMART-UDL project aims to enhance English proficiency among students aged 8-14 using UDL-based methods and
digital tools. It seeks to boost student motivation through interactive learning while ensuring inclusive education for diverse
learners. Teachers will gain expertise in technology-integrated language teaching, and parents will be equipped with
strategies to support learning at home. Additionally, the project promotes digital literacy for both students and educators.
What Makes SMART-UDL “Smart”?
SMART-UDL goes beyond theory by focusing on practical classroom application. Within the project:
- Teachers design UDL-aligned lesson plans based on common topics
- Web 2.0 tools are used purposefully, not randomly
- Learner choice, differentiation and accessibility are built into every lesson
- Teachers create transferable lesson models that can be used across countries and contexts
Each lesson plan developed in the project follows a shared template and is supported by a teacher guide, ensuring consistency and quality among partners.
