Zasas Vidusskola (Latvia)
The organisation’s main activities relate to provision of preschool education (students aged 1.5 – 6), basic education
(primary and lower secondary school students aged 7-15), general secondary education (upper secondary school students aged 16-19), special education programs for students with learning disabilities and mental developmental disabilities. At the upper secondary school level, students take advanced courses in the Latvian language and literature, English, social sciences and biology.
The school offers a wide range of interest education (folk group, folk dance, drama, robotics, cooking, art and design, school newspaper, sports activities), the school has branches of the Art School and Sports School. We have experience in language education and digital learning methodologies, making it a valuable contributor to this project. English is taught in all the educational stages of the school: in pre-school as an optional subject; in primary and
lower and upper secondary school as the first foreign language; in the final year of upper secondary school there is advanced level course.
The methodology of teaching English in early stages of education at pre-school has been the central
goal of the implemented KA220 project “The Knowledge of Languages – a World without Borders” (the leading organisation, No 2020-1-LV01-077558; 2020-2023), during which a methodological material with lesson plans, a digital website for learning vocabulary and a parents’ guide were created.
The school has experience in working with students who have different needs and abilities, as there are students with special programmes (learning difficulties, mild mental disabilities), as well as gifted students, so inclusive education is a big part of the school’s everyday studying process. The ongoing KA121- SCH project No 2024-1-LV01-KA121- SCH-000203399 for accredited schools (2024- 2025) deals with implementing inclusive education and improving students’ language proficiency.
The ongoing eTwinning project “Together in Language” (2024- 2025) is aimed at creating a multilingual digital dictionary for students, aged 8-11, with the topics from their closest environment, considering requirements for students with special needs.. This experience has equipped our school with
strong pedagogical and technological expertise in designing engaging, age-appropriate learning resources.
